Williams Lake and Quesnel General Meeting Minutes for June

Quesnel General Meetings for June 25th & 26th, 2019

Cody, Kiel, Daniel, Dan, Curtis, Riley, and Lee present for the executive.

Kiel reviewed old minutes and had copies available, all in favor.

Daniel gave the financial report and gave a breakdown of the shop/safety steward course costs, all in favor.

Dan discussed the bursaries and who received them.

Lee gave the OHSC report, spoke about air cannons in the surge bins and the company is committed to having these completed before winter. Recommendations are being discussed about safe cable handling and ways to improve the current procedures. A new safety steward handbook has been updated to assist the stewards in their investigations along with new investigation forms. Member is concerned that proper berms need to be put down while members are working in the crusher pocket, all in favor.

Kiel announced the executive by-election results with Lee Haggard as OHSC Co-Chair and Tyler Bate as Recording Secretary.

Curtis gave the grievance report. Cell phone policy, family day (Individual) grievance, piss testing procedures, and vacation grievances have all been resolved. Letter of estoppel for the electrical department and drug policy where discussed, all in favor.

Cody spoke about the President’s Meeting that he and Kiel attended in New Westminster at the National office. Local 3000 are representing the Casino in Williams Lake and will be using our hall for bargaining.

Kiel presented the proposed bylaw changes and passed out copies for the membership to review over the summer and will vote on the changes in September.

Williams Lake General Meetings for June 20th & 21st, 2019

Cody, Kiel, Daniel, Riley, Cory, Lee, Dan, and Ed present for the executive.

Kiel presented the old minutes from the May general meetings, all in favor.

Daniel gave the financial report, all in favor.

Riley gave the grievance report and reviewed arbitration dates. Discussed the policy grievance the local has submitted on the drug and alcohol policy and the support from the National on it, also discussed the amount of members we have lost due to the drug and alcohol policy. Cody spoke about the letter of estoppel the union received from the company about the electricians not being able to move their departmental seniority over from the mill or operations. Cody also mentioned the resolves on the vacations in the mill and managed to get all the members vacations approved, all in favor.

Cory handed his OHSC position over to Lee and thanked him for stepping up. Lee gave the OHSC report, spoke about air cannons in the surge bins and the company is committed to having these completed before winter. Dan discussed the bursaries that were received by the kids that qualified to receive them and discussed the difference between the local’s bursaries and the nationals.

Kiel presented the proposed bylaw changes and passed out copies for the membership to review over the summer and will vote on these changes in September. Also announced the president’s meeting that Cody and Kiel will be attending on June 26th 2019.

New Business: Reviewed Tom’s amendment to the membership jacket vote and asked if we should spend more money on the jackets so he could present better jackets, 9 in favor of looking at better jackets. Reviewed Tom’s amendment to the membership incentive program and held a vote on looking into better prizes, 6 in favor and 2 oppose. Member spoke about the mill investigations and apparently they have been trying to piss test members for operating worn out equipment, Riley said if these things are happening to approach himself or Curtis so they can be grieved.
